The Strength of Gentleness
Kindness & Power
Scripture
Matthew 11:28-29
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Devotion
Gentleness is not weakness. Jesus was powerful and gentle. Scripture teaches that Jesus was gentle and humble in heart, and He offers rest to the weary. Power without gentleness becomes tyranny, domination, and harm. But gentleness combined with strength becomes transformative. This is the paradox to cultivate: be strong enough to protect, gentle enough to heal. Be firm enough to set boundaries, kind enough to extend grace. This is the strength the world needs.
Today’s Step
Where do you need to be stronger? Where do you need to be gentler? Balance both today.
Prayer
God, help me to be gentle without being weak, strong without being harsh. Help me to model the gentleness of Christ. Help me to use my strength in service of others' wellbeing. Let gentleness be the hallmark of my power.
