Generosity Emerging

Hope & Anticipation

Scripture

Luke 12:48

“From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.”

Devotion

Thanksgiving and Christmas are seasons when generosity emerges. People give to charity. Families share resources. The spirit of giving is in the air. Yet Jesus reminds us that generosity is not seasonal but foundational. Those who have been given much—and all of us in relative comfort have been given much—are called to give much. Not as obligation. Not as guilt. But as grateful response to grace. You have been given breath, life, love, opportunities, resources. You have been entrusted with these. How will you steward them? How will you share them? November invites you to think not just about one-time holiday giving but about generosity as a way of life. It invites you to examine: Where am I holding too tightly? What am I afraid to share? How can I participate in God's abundance by releasing some of mine? Generosity does not require wealth. Some of the most generous people have little to give materially but give abundantly of time, attention, presence, wisdom. Some are generous with encouragement, with forgiveness, with belief in others' potential. As you think about the final weeks of the year, ask yourself: How do I want to be remembered for generosity? What small acts of sharing can I practice? How can I make sure my generosity is not performance but authentic response to God's grace to me?

Today’s Step

Identify one area of your life where you are holding too tightly. How might you practice release and generosity there?

Prayer

God, help me to see myself as entrusted with much. Help me to steward it wisely. Help me to be generous not from guilt but from grateful response to Your generosity. Help generosity to become my way of life.
