Week Three: Peace
Awe & Incarnation
Scripture
Luke 2:14
“"Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."”
Devotion
The angels announce Jesus's birth with a declaration: Peace on earth. Yet when we look at our world, peace seems distant. Wars continue. Injustice persists. Even in our personal lives, peace is elusive. Yet the invitation remains. Peace is not the absence of conflict or difficulty. Peace is the presence of God. When you know that God is with you, peace is possible even in difficulty. When you know that God has power over what you cannot control, peace is possible even in uncertainty. When you know that God is just and will ultimately make things right, peace is possible even in injustice. Jesus is called the Prince of Peace because His presence creates peace in the midst of anything. This Christmas, what if you chose peace? Not by escaping difficulty but by trusting God in the midst of it? What if you chose peace in your relationships—no longer demanding that others change but accepting them as they are? What if you chose peace in your circumstances—no longer fighting what you cannot change but flowing with what is? What if you chose peace in your heart—letting go of resentment, worry, and control? This is the invitation Jesus brings: Peace. Deep, lasting, trust-filled peace that surpasses understanding. It is available not someday when circumstances are perfect, but now. Today. In this moment. In December. In the midst of everything. Will you receive it?
Today’s Step
Identify one area of your life where you lack peace. What would it mean to surrender it to God and trust His presence there?
Prayer
God, give me peace. Not the peace of escape but the peace of Your presence. Help me to trust You in difficulty. Help peace to settle in my heart. Help me to be a bearer of peace to others.
