Releasing Expectations
Acceptance & Freedom
Scripture
Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Devotion
You often cannot see beyond your expectations to God's better plans. Your understanding is limited by your perspective and your current knowledge. God's perspective is infinite. He sees what you cannot see, knows what you do not know, and often has something far better in mind than what you imagined. Release your grip on how you thought things should go. Trust that God's way—though it may look different, feel uncomfortable, or challenge your assumptions—is wiser. The Stoics taught that difficulty often becomes the path to our greatest development. What you resisted becomes what transforms you. What you feared becomes what frees you. The question is not whether you will trust God, but whether you will trust Him enough to release your expectations.
Today’s Step
Where are you holding tight to expectations? What do you insist must happen? Release it today. Say to God: "Your will, not mine." Then watch what He does.
Prayer
God, help me to release my expectations and to trust Your plans for my life. Help me to lean not on my own understanding but to submit my way to You. Even when Your direction surprises me, help me to follow, trusting that You know the straight path to my wholeness and purpose. Free me from the tyranny of my own limited vision.
