Seek the Good

Pursuit & Intention

Scripture

Psalm 34:12-14

“Whoever of you loves life and desires to see good days must keep your tongue from evil and your lips from deceitful speech. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.”

Devotion

This psalm moves from general principle to specific actions. If you want a good life, if you want your days to have quality and meaning, the path is clear: stop the destructive speech, stop the deception, turn from evil, deliberately do good, and pursue peace. Notice that none of this is passive. You must guard your tongue. You must turn. You must pursue. A good life does not happen to you; it is built through deliberate choices, day after day. The first movements are subtractive—removing the things that poison life: lies, evil, destructive speech. Only after that foundation is clear can you build the positive: doing good, pursuing peace. Wisdom says that the quality of your days is more connected to what you choose to do and say than to circumstances you cannot control.

Today’s Step

Choose one of these: guard your speech, turn from one form of evil, do one deliberate good deed, or pursue peace in one broken relationship. Pick one and commit to it today.

Prayer

Lord, I want my days to have meaning and quality. Teach me that this is built through small choices, repeated daily. Help me to see that what I say, what I choose, and where I pursue peace shapes the kind of life I live.
