Plans and Prudence
Wisdom in Planning
Scripture
Proverbs 21:5
“The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.”
Devotion
The wisdom here is not mystical—it is observational and practical. The diligent person thinks ahead. She counts costs, evaluates consequences, and moves with purpose rather than impulse. The hasty person acts first and reckons with results later. The difference is not about personality type; it is about maturity. Someone who has truly begun to fear the Lord starts to ask: What are my actions building toward? What do my daily choices accumulate into? The proverb does not promise that planning guarantees riches, but it does promise that the structure of a diligent life tends toward flourishing while hasty choices tend toward loss. Wisdom, in its most practical form, is simply the discipline of asking "what comes next?" before you act.
Today’s Step
Identify one area where you have been acting hastily. What would prudent planning look like for this situation? Take one deliberate step today.
Prayer
Lord, teach me to think ahead—not obsessively, but wisely. Help me to count the costs of my choices before I make them. Give me the grace of diligence, and protect me from the poverty that haste brings.
