The Wise Heart
Wisdom & Response
Scripture
Proverbs 10:8
“The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin.”
Devotion
Wisdom is not just intellectual—it is of the heart. It includes the capacity to receive direction, to accept correction, to be moved by counsel. The fool, by contrast, talks constantly but listens to nothing. His chatter—his constant noise, his endless explanation, his justification—eventually isolates him and leads to ruin. No one wants to work with someone who cannot listen. No one wants to advise someone who has already decided everything. The wise person, by contrast, is characterized by a certain receptiveness. They are thoughtful before they speak. They can hold someone else's perspective without immediately defending their own. This is not weakness; it is the kind of strength that can actually change and grow.
Today’s Step
For one full day, practice listening more than speaking. Before you respond, ask a clarifying question. Notice what you learn.
Prayer
Lord, teach me the wisdom of receiving. Help me to listen more than I speak, to accept direction without immediately defending myself. Let me be someone whose heart is open, not someone whose mouth is constantly running.
