Stillness in the Rush
Peace & Quiet
Scripture
Psalm 46:10
“"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."”
Devotion
December rushes. There are parties and preparations, shopping and wrapping, expectations and obligations. Everyone is busy. The pace accelerates. In this context, the psalmist offers radical invitation: Be still. Stop. Pause. Know God. God will be exalted—God does not need your busyness to validate God's existence or power. God simply is. And when you stop rushing and be still, you know this. You encounter God not in the doing but in the being. The being still reveals what the rushing obscures: that God is present, that you are loved, that what matters most does not require constant activity. This December, resist the rush. Create space for stillness. It might be early morning before the day accelerates. It might be quiet time alone. It might be sitting in silence with someone you love. It might be a walk in nature. It might be reading, reflecting, praying. Create space for stillness. Notice what happens when you stop rushing. Notice what you learn about yourself, about God, about what matters. Notice how stillness restores you. The world will not fall apart if you are still. Your worth is not determined by how much you do. God is exalted not by your activity but by your presence to what is. This is the invitation of December: Stop. Be still. Know God.
Today’s Step
Today, create one space of stillness. No phone, no rushing. Just be. Notice what you discover.
Prayer
God, help me to stop rushing. Help me to create space for stillness and quiet. Help me to know You in the stillness. Help silence and peace to restore me.
