New Year's Eve: Release and Receive
Transition & Threshold
Scripture
Psalm 31:14-15
“But I trust in you, Lord; I say, You are my God. My times are in your hands.”
Devotion
New Year's Eve arrives. The final day of the year. One last day in 2025. Tomorrow begins 2026. This threshold is sacred. On one side is what has been. On the other side is what will be. You stand here on the last night of the year, and you have a choice: Carry the past forward as burden, or carry it forward as wisdom. Cling to the mistakes, or learn from them. Hold onto shame, or release it. Demand perfect resolutions that you will break, or set intentions grounded in who you are becoming. The psalmist says: My times are in Your hands. This is the spiritual posture for New Year's Eve. Release control of time. Trust that the new year is held in God's hands. Trust that you will be held in the new year. Trust that what you cannot control or predict will still be okay because you are in God's hands. As you stand on the threshold of the new year, practice this release. Let go of what you cannot change. Let go of the need to predict or control the future. Let go of demanding that the new year be perfect. Instead, practice receiving. Receive the year as it comes. Receive yourself as you are. Receive the invitation to grow without demanding growth. Receive the grace of a new year. On New Year's Eve, as midnight approaches, release what has been and receive what will be. Trust in the one whose hands hold your times. Step into the new year grounded in this trust.
Today’s Step
On New Year's Eve, what will you release? What will you receive? Can you trust?
Prayer
God, my times are in Your hands. Help me to release what has been and receive what will be. Help me to step into the new year in trust. Help the new year to be an adventure in Your presence.
