The Power of Intercession
Prayer & Advocacy
Scripture
James 5:16
“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
Devotion
Prayer is not primarily about getting what you want from God. Prayer is about aligning yourself with God's will and becoming His instrument in the world. When you pray for someone, you are standing in the gap for them, interceding on their behalf. This is not magic or manipulation; it is the actual work of bringing someone's need before God and asking God to act. The promise is that such prayer is powerful—it actually accomplishes something. Not because of your eloquence or your spiritual power but because you are connecting someone else's need with God's willingness to work. In prayer, you become an advocate, a mediator, someone who loves another person enough to bring them repeatedly before God.
Today’s Step
Choose someone to intercede for. Commit to praying for them regularly this week. Believe that your prayer matters.
Prayer
Lord, teach me the power of intercession. Help me to care deeply enough about others that I bring their needs before You consistently. Let me be someone who stands in the gap, who advocates, who believes that prayer changes things. Make my prayers an instrument of Your work in the world.
