Overcoming Fear With Love

Courage & Trust

Scripture

1 John 4:18

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

Devotion

Fear and love cannot occupy the same space. When you are completely confident that you are loved and that nothing can separate you from that love, fear loses its power. Fear is often rooted in the belief that you will be punished, abandoned, or condemned. But God's love is not conditional on your performance. It is not something you can lose through failure. As you sink deeper into the reality of being loved this thoroughly, fear naturally diminishes. This is not about denying real dangers or being naive about the world. It is about the freedom that comes from knowing that the deepest, most fundamental reality of your existence is that you are loved unconditionally.

Today’s Step

What fear are you carrying right now? Sit with the question: What would it look like to believe that nothing, not even this fear, can separate me from God's love?

Prayer

God, I want to know the love that casts out fear. Help me to internalize, not just intellectually but deeply, that I am loved by You completely. As I experience that love more fully, let it displace the fears that have driven so much of my decision-making. Make me brave because I am loved.
