The Practice of Patience
Waiting & Trust
Scripture
Proverbs 14:29
“Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.”
Devotion
Patience is not passivity. It is the active choice to wait, to refrain from rushing to judgment or action. A patient person has great understanding because they take time to perceive, to think, to consider context. A quick-tempered person acts before understanding and typically pays for that hasty action. Patience is the discipline that allows wisdom to develop. When you slow down, you see more. When you wait, you often find that what seemed urgent an hour ago is no longer pressing. Patience also communicates respect—it says to another person, "You are worth waiting for. Your story is worth hearing." In a world that prizes speed, patience becomes a radical act.
Today’s Step
Identify something you are being impatient about. Practice waiting one more day before acting. Notice what you understand about the situation that rushing would have cost you.
Prayer
Lord, teach me patience. Help me to resist the impulse to rush, to judge quickly, to act hastily. Give me the discipline to slow down, to think, to wait for clarity. Let my patience communicate respect and care to others.
