Community Support & Accountability
Scripture
Proverbs 27:12
“The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.”
Devotion
Related to our earlier theme of seeking counsel, this proverb emphasizes the safety that comes from community. The prudent person surrounds themselves with wise people who will notice danger—both external threats and internal patterns—and offer warning. The simple person goes alone and pays the price. In modern culture, we tend to celebrate rugged individualism and self-reliance, but Scripture consistently emphasizes the wisdom of community. You need people who know you well enough to see things you cannot see about yourself. You need accountability. You need reflection from others who care about your wellbeing. This is not weakness; it is wisdom.
Today’s Step
Do you have people in your life who can speak truth to you? If not, what would it take to build that kind of community? If yes, are you actually listening to them?
Prayer
Lord, help me to recognize that I need community—not just for encouragement but for accountability. Give me the humility to listen when others see danger I cannot see. Surround me with wise people who love me enough to tell me hard truths.
