Respecting Boundaries
Wisdom & Limits
Scripture
Proverbs 19:11
“A person's wisdom yields patience; it is to one's glory to overlook an offense.”
Devotion
Wisdom includes knowing what to overlook. Not everything requires response. Not every slight deserves attention. Not every offense needs confrontation. The mature person has the capacity to let some things go, to not take every provocation personally, to recognize that not everything is about them. This is different from weakness; it is actually a form of strength—the strength to choose your battles and to know when peace is more valuable than being right. This applies both to real offenses and to perceived ones. Often we are offended by things that were never meant as offense. Wisdom includes the humility to wonder whether we are reading the situation correctly and the grace to give others the benefit of the doubt.
Today’s Step
What offense have you been nursing? Can you choose to overlook it? What would that feel like?
Prayer
Lord, give me the wisdom to know what matters and what does not. Help me to have a high threshold for offense, to not take things personally that were not meant personally. Let me be known as someone who does not carry grudges but moves forward with grace.
