Choosing Life
Decisions & Direction
Scripture
Deuteronomy 30:19-20
“I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him.”
Devotion
This is perhaps the most direct command in Scripture: choose life. Not perfection, not success, not comfort. Life. Real, vital, abundant life. You have the capacity to choose. In almost every moment, you have options—some that lead toward life and some that lead toward death. Life is characterized by connection (to God, to others, to yourself), growth, purpose, and love. Death is characterized by isolation, stagnation, meaninglessness, and numbness. The promise is that when you choose life—when you align your choices with what produces abundant living—you create the conditions for blessing not just for yourself but for your children and their descendants.
Today’s Step
In one area where you have been going numb or dead, what would choosing life look like? Take one concrete step.
Prayer
Lord, I choose life. I choose to wake up where I have been numb. I choose to connect where I have been isolated. I choose to move where I have been stagnant. Help me to recognize the moments where I have the choice between life and death, and give me courage to choose life.
