Humility Opens the Door
Receiving & Growth
Scripture
Proverbs 22:4
“Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life.”
Devotion
Humility is not self-deprecation or false modesty. It is the realistic assessment of your own position—small before the vastness of God and the universe, but valued and cherished within that smallness. Humility is the fear of the Lord expressed through attitude. When you are humble, you are open to learning. You recognize that you do not have all the answers. You can receive correction without shame and counsel without defensiveness. This openness to growth is what creates the conditions for riches, honor, and a full life. The proud person is locked in their own righteousness and cannot grow. The humble person remains open to becoming more than they are. This is the paradox: it is the humble who truly rise.
Today’s Step
How humble are you actually? Can you receive criticism without immediately defending? Can you acknowledge when you are wrong? Take one small step toward genuine humility today.
Prayer
Lord, teach me humility—not as self-hatred but as realistic acknowledgment of my place in Your universe. Help me to remain open, teachable, willing to learn. Let humility be the soil in which I grow into the person You intend me to become.
