Building on the Rock
Foundation & Wisdom
Scripture
Matthew 7:24-25
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
Devotion
Life's storms come to everyone. The wise do not build as if storms will not come; they build knowing storms will come. What matters is the foundation. God's word, His truth, His character—these are the rock on which to build. When you build your life on Christ, you are not building to avoid storms but to withstand them. The Stoics similarly taught that a life built on virtue and wisdom remains stable through all circumstances. But this building happens slowly, daily, through the practice of putting God's words into action. It is not enough to hear them. You must practice them. This is the difference between a theoretical faith and a faith that actually sustains you.
Today’s Step
Where is your foundation weak? Where do you know God's truth but are not living it? Choose one truth. Put it into practice today. Build on the rock.
Prayer
God, help me to build my life on the solid rock of Your word and character. Help me to take seriously the practice of Your teachings, to internalize them so deeply that they become my foundation. When the storms of life come—and they will—let me stand firm because I am rooted in You.
