The Way of the Wise

Path & Direction

Scripture

Proverbs 12:15

“The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.”

Devotion

Foolishness is not primarily a lack of intelligence. It is a confidence that your own perception is sufficiently clear. The fool looks at his situation, draws conclusions, and acts on them—completely convinced of his own rightness. He may be wrong, but he does not know it. Wisdom, by contrast, begins with humility: the recognition that your perspective is limited, that you may be missing something, that another viewpoint might see what you cannot. The wise person has the humility to listen—not to accept everything uncritically, but to genuinely consider whether there is truth in what others are saying. This posture of openness is what allows wisdom to grow. The fool is locked in his own certainty. The wise person remains flexible, ready to adjust when new information or perspectives suggest they should.

Today’s Step

Is there an area where you are completely certain you are right? Take that issue to someone you trust and ask them to give you their honest perspective.

Prayer

Lord, give me the humility of the wise. Protect me from the prison of my own certainty. Make me someone who listens, who is willing to be wrong, who adjusts course when the evidence suggests I should.
