Build Your House With Wisdom
Foundation & Building
Scripture
Proverbs 24:3-4
“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”
Devotion
This proverb moves from foundation to structure to furnishing. By wisdom comes the initial strength—the foundation must be built right. By understanding, the whole structure becomes established—it remains standing through storms. And by knowledge, the rooms fill with what is valuable and beautiful. Notice that this is not about size; it is about quality. A house built on a poor foundation will collapse regardless of how large it is. A house built with wisdom and understanding, even if modest, will stand and will be filled with things of value. This applies to every kind of "house" you build: your family, your work, your character. The foundation matters more than the appearance. The stability matters more than the size. And what fills the house—the daily practices, the relationships you cultivate, the knowledge you accumulate—determines whether it is a place of beauty or empty show.
Today’s Step
Examine one area of your life you are building—a relationship, a project, a practice. Is it built on wisdom? What needs to be reinforced at the foundation?
Prayer
Lord, help me to build with wisdom. I would rather have something small and strong than something large and fragile. Teach me to attend to the foundations, to build with understanding, and to fill my house with what is truly valuable.
