The Beginning and the End
Purpose & Wisdom
Scripture
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
“Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.”
Devotion
After the Teacher in Ecclesiastes has explored every form of human pursuit—pleasure, work, wisdom, achievement—and found it all ultimately empty, he arrives at the conclusion that matters. The meaning-making principle is not success or accumulation or even knowledge for its own sake. It is the fear of God and the keeping of His commandments. Not because this is easy or because it feels good, but because this is what makes sense of a human life. The recognition that our deeds matter—that God sees them, that they will be brought into judgment—should reshape our priorities. We are not living for the approval of the moment or for what impresses others. We are living for God's judgment, which means we are living for what actually matters.
Today’s Step
Imagine standing before God and accounting for the last month. What would you want to be true about your choices?
Prayer
Lord, help me to orient my entire life around Your presence and Your judgment. Not in fear that paralyzes but in awe that redirects. Let me live as if I am always standing before You, because I am.
