Gratitude for People
Thanksgiving & Gratitude
Scripture
1 Thessalonians 5:11
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
Devotion
November is the month to thank the people who matter. Not as an obligation in response to Hallmark sentiment but as a genuine recognition of how others have shaped you, supported you, challenged you, loved you. Think of someone who believed in you when you did not believe in yourself. Someone who showed up when you were in darkness. Someone who told you hard truth in love. Someone who laughed with you. Someone who suffered alongside you. These people are not accidents. They are God's gifts to you, placed in your life to help you become who you are becoming. This November, tell them. Do not wait for a social media prompt or a greeting card occasion. Pick up the phone. Send a handwritten note. Name specifically what they mean to you. Be vulnerable enough to say: "You matter to me. You have shaped my life. I am grateful for you." Notice what happens when you do this. Notice how it builds them up and simultaneously builds you up. Gratitude for people creates connection. It breaks isolation. It reminds both of you that you are not alone. In a month that celebrates gathering and togetherness, make gratitude for people your practice. Let people know they are seen, valued, appreciated. Let your gratitude be a gift to them and a transformation in yourself.
Today’s Step
Choose one person. Call them, write them, or visit them. Tell them specifically why you are grateful for them.
Prayer
God, thank You for the people in my life. Help me to see them as Your gifts. Help me to tell them what they mean to me. Help gratitude to deepen my connections. Help me to build others up through genuine appreciation.
