Gratitude for Provision
Thanksgiving & Gratitude
Scripture
Matthew 6:11
“"Give us today our daily bread."”
Devotion
Jesus teaches us to pray for "daily bread"—not for hoarding abundance, not for luxury, but for provision for this day. There is deep wisdom here. When we stop demanding certainty about the future and learn to trust provision for today, anxiety decreases and gratitude increases. Most of us have never experienced true hunger. We have never faced a day without food, shelter, or safety. Yet we live with a scarcity mentality, always afraid there is not enough, always grasping, always anxious about the future. Jesus invites a different way: Trust that today is provided for. Eat today's bread. Enjoy today's provision. Rest in knowing that tomorrow's bread will come tomorrow. This November, practice gratitude for provision by changing your relationship to it. Notice what you have—food, shelter, clothes, safety, community. Rather than taking it for granted, pause and truly see it. This roof, this food, this person—these are not guaranteed. They are gifts. When you truly see provision, gratitude emerges naturally. And gratitude creates satisfaction. When you are satisfied with enough, you are content. When you are content, you are at peace. This is the spiritual practice Jesus invites: daily gratitude for daily provision, which creates daily peace.
Today’s Step
For one day, pause three times and truly notice the provision you have received: a meal, shelter, a conversation, safety. Let yourself feel gratitude.
Prayer
God, help me to trust You for daily provision. Help me to not anxiously hoard or always fear lack. Help me to see what I have and be grateful. Help provision and gratitude to create peace in me.
