Late November: Preparation for Christmas

Readiness & Opening

Scripture

Isaiah 40:3

“A voice of one calling: "In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God."”

Devotion

As November nears its end, the final days prepare you for Christmas. The ancient Isaiah speaks of making a highway, preparing the way. These days are your preparation. You are not rushing into Christmas; you are preparing your heart, clearing space, opening yourself to receive what Christmas offers. Preparation is not about perfection. It is about readiness. It is about clearing away unnecessary distraction so you can be present to what matters. You might prepare by simplifying your calendar, saying no to events that drain you, creating quiet space for reflection. You might prepare by forgiving someone, releasing a grudge, letting go of bitterness that weighs you down. You might prepare by getting enough sleep, moving your body, nourishing yourself well. These are not trivial acts. They are spiritual preparation. They are ways of saying to God and to yourself: I am making space. I am getting ready. I am opening myself to receive. As the final days of November unfold, make preparation your practice. The highway you clear is not just external but internal. You are preparing your heart, your mind, your spirit to encounter God in a fresh way. This preparation will transform Christmas from a day that happens to you into a day you are ready to receive.

Today’s Step

What is one thing you need to clear or prepare to be ready for Christmas? What is one action you can take today?

Prayer

God, help me to prepare my heart for Christmas. Help me to clear away distraction and busyness. Help me to make space for You. Help me to be ready to receive what You offer.
