Better to Give Than to Receive

Generosity & Blessing

Scripture

Acts 20:35

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: "It is more blessed to give than to receive."”

Devotion

There is a hidden paradox here: the person who is always receiving becomes diminished—they begin to see themselves as unable, unworthy, a burden. The person who gives experiences a different kind of freedom and dignity. Generosity is not primarily about making someone else feel good; it is about honoring their capacity and your own. When you give, you participate in the creative, life-giving work of God. You become part of blessing rather than just receiving blessings. The greatest blessing available to you is not what you receive but what you have the opportunity to give.

Today’s Step

Give something without being asked. It does not have to be material—time, attention, skills, a word of encouragement. Give from the place of wanting to bless, not from obligation.

Prayer

Lord, teach me the freedom of generosity. Help me to become someone who looks for opportunities to give rather than to receive. Let me experience the deep joy that comes from participating in Your work of blessing others. Transform me from consumer to contributor.
