December's Final Approach: Anticipation and Trust
Waiting and Faith
Scripture
Hebrews 10:23-24
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another.”
Devotion
November ends and December's final days approach. A year is nearly complete. Christmas is imminent. The anticipation builds. This is the moment to hold steady. To not give up. To trust that God is faithful, that what you are waiting for matters, that the gathering and celebration ahead will hold meaning. Hebrews invites us to hold unswervingly to hope. Not because everything is perfect or certain, but because God is faithful. Not because we have all the answers, but because we trust the one who does. These final days of the year are a perfect time to renew this trust. To remember that you have been held through the year. To recognize that you are still here, still growing, still becoming. To trust that the remaining days of the year—and the year to come—are held in God's hands. This is the spiritual work of the end of the year: Trust. Release control. Embrace hope. Encourage others. Move forward together. As December unfolds, let these disciplines guide you. Let hope stabilize you. Let trust anchor you. Let community strengthen you. Let anticipation draw you forward into the celebration and mystery of Christmas and the threshold of a new year.
Today’s Step
As the year nears completion, what will you hold steady? What hope do you need to renew your trust in?
Prayer
God, help me to hold steady to hope. Help me to trust that You are faithful. Help me to release control and embrace trust. Help me to encourage others and be encouraged. Help me to enter Christmas and the new year with hope and faith.
