December Begins: Incarnation Celebrated
Joy & Presence
Scripture
John 1:14
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Devotion
December arrives. The final month of the year. The month that celebrates the central mystery of Christianity: the Incarnation. God became human. This is not metaphorical. This is not spiritual symbolism. This is historical claim: God entered time, space, and human flesh. God became vulnerable. God became dependent. God became mortal. This happened. This is celebrated. And if we pause to let it, the Incarnation transforms everything. It means God did not create and abandon. God became intimate. God got involved. God got human. This changes how we see the world, how we see ourselves, how we see each other. Every person is made in God's image. Every body is sacred because God took on a body. Every human struggle is known by God because God experienced hunger, tiredness, fear, betrayal, suffering, death. And God triumphed. Death could not contain God. Love could not be destroyed. This is the message of December: Love incarnate. Love entering the world. Love that will not be defeated. As you enter December, let this truth move you. Let it change how you treat yourself and others. Let it ground your celebration in something deeper than commercial Christmas. Let it connect you to a reality that has sustained billions of people for two thousand years: God loves us so much that God became us.
Today’s Step
Contemplate what it means that God became human. How does this truth change your perspective on your own humanity?
Prayer
God, help me to grasp the Incarnation. Help me to understand that You became human for me. Help this truth to transform how I see myself and others. Help me to celebrate it genuinely.
