Early December: Celebration Approaching
Joy & Preparation
Scripture
Luke 15:10
“"In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."”
Devotion
Luke speaks of celebration in heaven. Rejoicing. Happiness. God is not remote and stern but joyful and celebratory. This is who God is at God's core: one who celebrates, who delights, who invites others to join in celebration. Early December invites you into this joy. Not the superficial joy of commercial Christmas or holiday obligation, but deep spiritual joy. Joy at being alive. Joy at being loved. Joy at encountering grace. Joy at gathering with others. Joy at the mystery of God entering the world. This is not frivolous happiness. This is profound celebration rooted in spiritual truth. As December unfolds, let joy be your practice. Not forced cheerfulness, but genuine delight. Notice what brings you joy: a conversation with someone you love, a beautiful moment, an act of kindness received or given, a song that moves you, a quiet moment of peace. These are invitations to celebrate. These are moments of grace. The more you notice joy, the more you experience it. The more you celebrate small things, the more you realize life itself is cause for celebration. This is the spiritual practice of December: Rejoicing. Celebrating. Delighting. Inviting others to join you in joy. As you do, you participate in what God is always doing: celebrating creation, celebrating redemption, celebrating the possibility of restoration and return.
Today’s Step
Notice three moments of joy today. Really notice them. Let them move you. Celebrate them.
Prayer
God, help me to experience and express genuine joy. Help me to celebrate life, love, and Your presence. Help me to invite others to celebrate. Help joy to deepen my December.
