Embrace Imperfection

Grace & Acceptance

Scripture

Romans 3:23-24

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

Devotion

As the year nears its end, there remains one final spiritual practice: embracing imperfection. You have not lived the perfect spiritual life this year. You have missed practices. You have been unkind. You have failed. You have fallen short. This is true for all of us. Paul reminds us: all have sinned. All fall short. And all are justified freely by grace. You are not judged for your failures. You are not condemned for your mistakes. You are justified—made right—by grace. Not by your effort. Not by your perfection. By grace. This is the radical heart of the gospel: You are enough as you are. Your failures do not disqualify you. Your imperfections do not make you unworthy of God's love. God loves you not because of your spiritual achievements but because you are God's beloved. This final week, let go of the pressure to be perfect. Let go of comparing yourself to others or to your own idealized version of yourself. Accept yourself as imperfectly human. Accept that you tried and sometimes failed. Accept that you are still being transformed. Accept that grace covers what you cannot achieve. In accepting your imperfection, you become free. Free to rest. Free to keep trying without being crushed by failure. Free to be loved as you are. This is the gift of the end of the year: the realization that perfection was never the goal. Transformation was. And transformation is possible not because you finally get it right, but because you accept grace.

Today’s Step

What is one way you fell short this year that you can now release through grace?

Prayer

God, help me to accept myself as imperfectly human. Help me to release the pressure to be perfect. Help me to receive Your grace. Help me to extend that grace to myself and others. Help me to rest in Your love.
