Hope Sustained
Resilience & Trust
Scripture
Romans 15:13
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Devotion
Paul prays that hope will overflow in us. Not because circumstances are hopeful. But because we trust God. Hope is not optimism—the belief that things will go well. Hope is something deeper: the trust that God is present and will ultimately make things right. Hope is what sustained believers through persecution, through difficulty, through loss. Hope does not deny that bad things happen. Hope believes that bad things are not the final word. Hope believes that beyond struggle is triumph. Beyond death is resurrection. Beyond difficulty is grace. This hope overflows not from our effort but from God. From the Holy Spirit. From trusting in a presence larger than our circumstances. As the year ends, you might feel hopeless about some things. The world faces problems. Your life faces challenges. It is easy to lose hope. But Paul invites us to be filled with hope. Not through denying reality but through trusting God. Through believing that God is working. Through knowing that we are held. Hope is a choice we make moment by moment: I will trust. I will believe. I will let hope fill me. This final week, choose hope. Let it overflow in you. Let it sustain you. Let it move you into the new year.
Today’s Step
What is something you have lost hope about? Can you choose to trust God with it?
Prayer
God, fill me with hope. Help me to trust in You rather than in circumstances. Help hope to overflow in me. Help me to carry hope into the new year. Help the Holy Spirit to sustain me.
