Rest Before Tomorrow

Stillness & Preparation

Scripture

Hebrews 4:9-10

“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God... for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from their own work, just as God did from his.”

Devotion

God rested on the seventh day. Not because the work was incomplete but because rest itself is spiritual. Rest is holy. As this year nears completion, practice Sabbath. Rest. Not the rest that comes from exhaustion but the rest that comes from trust. Rest that says: I have done what I can. I release control. I trust that the work continues even in my rest. The work of God does not depend on my constant effort. God sustains the world. God continues to work. God holds what matters. I can rest. In your final days of this year, rest. Sleep well. Spend time in quiet. Sit by a window and simply be. Read for pleasure, not for productivity. Walk slowly. Eat slowly. Rest your body. Rest your mind. Rest your soul. In resting, you honor that you are human, not machine. You honor that you need renewal. You honor that God is God and you are not. You honor Sabbath. In resting well, you prepare for the new year well. You enter it renewed. You enter it remembering that you are not your productivity. You are God's beloved. Rest.

Today’s Step

Today, rest. Without guilt. Without productivity. Simply rest.

Prayer

God, help me to rest well. Help me to trust that the world continues in Your hands, not mine. Help me to honor Sabbath. Help me to enter the new year renewed. Help me to know that I am enough simply by being.
