Gratitude for Imperfect Grace

Perfect Love in Imperfect Circumstances

Scripture

2 Corinthians 12:9

“"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."”

Devotion

Paul speaks of grace being sufficient not when everything is perfect, but precisely in weakness. God's grace does not remove weakness. It works through weakness. It perfects itself in weakness. This is stunning: Your weakness is not a problem to be solved before God can work. Your weakness is the very place where God's grace is most powerful. This year has not been perfect. You have faced weaknesses: physical, emotional, spiritual, relational. You have faced failures. You have faced limitations. And yet, grace has been sufficient. You are still here. You are still becoming. You are still loved. This is worth gratitude: not gratitude for the weakness, but gratitude that grace meets you precisely in the weakness. Not gratitude for the failure, but gratitude that failure is not the final word. Gratitude for the sufficiency of grace. As you close this year, hold the paradox: Your life has been imperfect. And God's grace has been perfect. That grace continues. It will be sufficient for the new year too. Whatever weakness you face, grace will be there. Whatever limitation you encounter, grace will work. This is the promise. This is the foundation of hope. This is why you can move forward without fear. Grace is sufficient.

Today’s Step

Recognize one weakness or failure this year. Can you see God's grace working even there?

Prayer

God, help me to see Your grace in my weakness. Help me to trust that Your power is perfected in my imperfection. Help me to move forward knowing that Your grace is sufficient. Help me to be grateful for grace that meets me exactly where I am.
