From Darkness to Light
Illumination & Vision
Scripture
John 8:12
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."”
Devotion
Darkness is more than the absence of light; it is a condition that clouds judgment, distorts perception, and creates fear. We walk in darkness when we mistake illusion for truth, when we believe lies about ourselves or God. Christ is the light that pierces this darkness—not with judgment but with clarity. In His light, we see ourselves truly. We see God's character truly. We see our circumstances and possibilities truly. The Stoics understood that clarity of perception is itself a form of liberation. When you see truly, you can act rightly. Light and vision are inseparable.
Today’s Step
Where are you walking in darkness today? Where do you need clarity? Spend time in quiet, asking Jesus to illuminate this place with truth. What becomes visible when His light shines?
Prayer
God of light, I ask You to shine Your light into the dark corners of my heart and mind. Illuminate my distorted beliefs. Show me where I've mistaken fear for wisdom, or shame for truth. Help me to see myself with Your eyes—known, loved, and capable. Let me follow Your light so consistently that I become a light to others, reflecting Your truth and love into the world's darkness.
