Strength in Roots
Foundation & Stability
Scripture
Colossians 2:6-7
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
Devotion
A tree's strength is not visible. You do not see roots, and yet they determine everything—whether the tree survives drought, storm, or disease. In the same way, your spiritual strength depends on roots you cannot see: your daily practices, your core beliefs, your intimate relationship with God. When storms come—and they will come—your visible circumstances matter far less than your invisible roots. The deeper your roots, the more stable you remain. The Stoics understood this too: a stable character, grounded in principles and virtue, cannot be shaken by external events. But roots take time to develop. This is patient work.
Today’s Step
Assess your spiritual roots. Are you rooted in daily prayer? Scripture study? Community? Gratitude? Choose one area where your roots need to deepen. Take one action today to strengthen it.
Prayer
God of stability, deepen my roots in You. Help me to develop a foundation of faith so solid that life's inevitable storms cannot shake me. Strengthen me in the disciplines that matter—prayer, study, worship, service. Let me grow so rooted in Your truth that I become an anchor for others in their uncertainty. Make my invisible life of prayer and faith my greatest strength.
