Rising from Ashes
Restoration & Hope
Scripture
Isaiah 61:3
“And provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.”
Devotion
From ashes comes beauty. Not the beauty of pretending nothing happened, but the beauty of transformation. God does not leave us in our devastation but meets us there and transforms it. The image of a crown of beauty for ashes is not poetic exaggeration; it is the pattern of resurrection at work. When you have experienced loss, failure, or brokenness, God's work is to transform that very experience into something that displays His splendor. You become an oak of righteousness—strong because you've weathered the fire, beautiful because of how you've been remade. Others who are grieving see your restoration and believe their own is possible too.
Today’s Step
Where are you in ashes? What devastation, loss, or failure have you experienced? Invite God into that place. Ask Him to show you how He might transform it into testimony, strength, and beauty.
Prayer
God of restoration, help me to believe that my ashes can become beauty. Take the devastation, loss, and grief in my life and transform it into something that displays Your splendor. Make me an oak of righteousness—strong, dependable, and beautiful in my brokenness. Let my restoration become a testimony to Your love and power. Help others to see what You've done and to hope in Your work in their own lives.
