Drinking Living Water

Spiritual Satisfaction & Abundance

Scripture

John 4:10-14

“Jesus answered, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water." ... "but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."”

Devotion

We seek satisfaction in so many places: success, pleasure, approval, accumulation, achievement. And the seeking never ends because none of these wells are deep enough. Christ offers something different—living water that truly satisfies. The difference is profound. Satisfaction from external things is temporary and conditional. But Christ's water becomes a spring within you, continuously flowing, perpetually available. When you drink of Him, you become not just satisfied but a source of satisfaction for others. Your own emptiness becomes irrelevant because you are connected to an infinite spring. The Stoics taught that true wealth is learning to need less. Christ teaches that true wealth is being satisfied by what alone satisfies: Him.

Today’s Step

What empty wells have you been drinking from? Where do you seek satisfaction outside of God? Today, bring that thirst to Jesus and ask for living water. What would change if you believed you had all the satisfaction you need in Him?

Prayer

God of living water, I confess my thirst for things that cannot satisfy me. Help me to turn away from empty wells—success, pleasure, approval—and to drink deeply of You. Let Your presence become a spring within me, welling up to eternal life. As You satisfy me, help me to become a source of life to others. Free me from the exhausting search for satisfaction outside of You.
