Sowing and Reaping
Consequences & Integrity
Scripture
Galatians 6:7-8
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”
Devotion
Your choices have consequences. This is not punishment but law. What you plant—in your mind, in your habits, in your relationships, in your work—you will harvest. This is a profound responsibility but also a profound hope. You are not passive in your future. Your daily choices are seeds. Small daily choices compound over time into the life you are building. Choose wisely what you sow. Choose to sow to the Spirit—seeds of love, truth, virtue, kindness—knowing that you will harvest eternal life. The Stoics understood the power of this practice. Marcus Aurelius reminded himself constantly: watch your thoughts; they become your character; your character becomes your destiny.
Today’s Step
What seeds are you sowing today? In your mind, in your relationships, in your work? Are you sowing to the flesh or to the Spirit? Make one choice today to sow differently.
Prayer
God of consequences, help me to be sobering about my choices. Help me to remember that small daily choices accumulate into the life I am building. Help me to sow to the Spirit—seeds of love, truth, virtue—knowing that I will reap life eternal. Help me to choose well, knowing my choices matter.
