Opening to Wonder

Awe & Mystery

Scripture

Psalm 139:14

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Devotion

Take time to wonder at creation, at your own complexity, at the mystery of existence. This is not wasted time; this is essential practice. Wonder opens us to awe and humility. It reminds us that we are part of something far larger than ourselves. The Stoics taught that contemplating the vastness of the cosmos reminds us of our smallness and calls us to virtue. We are small, yes, but we are also intricately made, thoughtfully designed, wonderfully composed. To wonder at this is to practice gratitude. To wonder is to refuse to take life for granted. To wonder is to remember that you are not random or accidental but known and loved.

Today’s Step

Stop today and wonder. Look at something—a leaf, a person, the sky, your own hand. Wonder at its complexity. Let awe lead you to gratitude and worship.

Prayer

God of wonder, help me to recover my sense of awe at the mystery of existence. Help me to see myself not as an accident but as fearfully and wonderfully made. Help me to look at creation, at other people, at my own life with wonder rather than taking things for granted. Let awe lead me to grateful worship.
