The Vulnerability of Growth
Openness & Change
Scripture
Romans 12:2
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Devotion
Transformation requires vulnerability—opening yourself to change, to new ideas, to God's reshaping. This is not weakness but wisdom. You cannot be transformed if you remain rigid. The person who is certain they already know everything cannot grow. The person who is unwilling to be changed is already dead. True vulnerability is the willingness to have your mind renewed, to discover that what you believed was wrong, to release what you thought you understood. This is terrifying and liberating at once. The Stoics understood this too: you must be willing to have your judgments corrected. You must be willing to learn. You must be open.
Today’s Step
Where have you become rigid? Where are you resistant to change? Choose one belief or practice and open it to God's renewal. Be vulnerable to transformation.
Prayer
God of transformation, help me to be open to Your reshaping. Help me to release rigidity and to become flexible enough to be molded by Your hands. Help me to welcome the renewing of my mind, even when it means letting go of old patterns and beliefs. Transform me from glory to glory.
