The Call to Courage
Boldness & Faith
Scripture
Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Devotion
God's repeated command throughout Scripture is "Be strong and courageous." This is not optional. As you grow, you will be called to risks—to speak truth when silence is easier, to step out when staying comfortable is the natural choice, to trust when trust is irrational by the world's standards. God does not give this command from a distance. He promises to go with you. He will never leave you, never forsake you. This is not a guarantee that everything will work out the way you want. It is a guarantee that you will not face anything alone. The Stoics understood courage as the foundation of virtue. Without courage, the other virtues—wisdom, justice, moderation—cannot be practiced. You must be courageous enough to do what is right regardless of consequence.
Today’s Step
Where is God calling you to courage? What risk is He inviting you to take? Take one step today. Remember: He goes with you.
Prayer
God of courage, I hear Your call to be strong and courageous. Help me to remember that You go with me. Help me to judge what's important more carefully than I judge my fear. Give me the courage to do what's right, to speak truth, to take the risks that faith requires. I will not be afraid because You are with me.
