The Paradox of Strength
Power & Weakness
Scripture
2 Corinthians 12:9
“But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.”
Devotion
This paradox runs through both Christian and Stoic wisdom: we become strong by acknowledging weakness. When we stop performing strength—pretending we have it all together, that we are not struggling, that we do not need help—we become channels for God's power. Vulnerability is not the opposite of strength; it is the gateway to genuine strength. The world teaches that strength is never admitting struggle. Jesus teaches that true strength rests on the admission of weakness. When Paul boasted about his weaknesses, he was not being self-deprecating. He was being realistic. He understood that his weakness was where God's power became real.
Today’s Step
What weakness are you hiding? Where are you performing strength? Today, admit it. To God, to one trusted person. Watch what happens when you stop pretending.
Prayer
God, help me to stop performing strength and to be genuinely strong. Help me to acknowledge my weaknesses and to let them become windows for Your grace. Help me to understand that admitting my limits is not failure but wisdom. Let Your power work through my honest humanity.
