The Ministry of Presence
Being With Others
Scripture
Matthew 25:35-40
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me... whatever you did for the least of these... you did for me.”
Devotion
Jesus reveals Himself in human need. Presence with others—listening, serving, caring, showing up—is spiritual practice. We are interconnected; we are part of one another. When you show up for someone, you show up for Christ. When you listen deeply to someone, you are practicing prayer. Ministry is simply presence: being fully with others in their joy and their pain. The world does not need more impressive gestures; it needs genuine presence. One person fully present is worth more than ten busy people distracted by their phones and their to-do lists.
Today’s Step
Who in your life needs your presence? Not your advice, not your fix, but simply your presence. Be with them today, fully, without agenda or distraction.
Prayer
God of compassion, open my eyes to see You in every person I meet. Help me to be truly present with others—not distracted but fully there. Give me courage to serve, to listen, to love. Help me understand that my presence is a gift, and through it I touch the divine.
